Alfred Victor “Al” Garguilo, 99 years outdated, handed peacefully in his residence surrounded by family members on Could 9, 2021. He was born in Little Falls, NY, on Could 27,1922.
When America entered WW II, Al volunteered and served as a Second Lieutenant. He was injured, and spent 18 months at Walter Reed Hospital.
In 1954, Al vacationed in Daytona Seaside, and by no means left. He ultimately grew to become the Director of Recreation, and served non permanent assignments as Chief of Police and Mayor. Al was accountable for bringing the Speedway to Daytona, together with Embry Riddle. His efficient and profitable improvement of Daytona Seaside led to a request from then President John F. Kennedy for a gathering, which came about in Al’s residence.
Al can also be identified for his defending of the American flag on the Daytona Seaside bandshell, when members of a militant group of protesters tried to take it down. President Nixon acknowledged Al’s act with a Letter of Commendation for his patriotism. Over his years of dedication to town of Daytona Seaside, Al was the recipient of quite a few awards for excellent service.
Al retired in 1981, and married his loving spouse, Justine, in 1982. From that day on he was fast to let everybody he met know the way fortunate he was to have the “greatest” spouse on this planet.
After retirement, his pastime was handicapping the horses. He wager on one horse a day someplace within the nation and most at all times received. Al cherished rising fruit timber, greens, and easily being along with his spouse and household.
Al was preceded in loss of life by his father, mom and two sisters. He’s survived by his spouse, Justine; his 4 youngsters, Hilary Smith (Tom), Mark (Sara), Greg (Dee), Lisa (Rick); three sisters, Fran, Midge, Dorothy; three brothers, Frank, Louis, Bobby; 10 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Al was actually a exceptional man and might be vastly missed by all those that knew him.
